Cataract

A cataract is an opacified area of the eye which interferes with vision. Cataracts can be caused by natural hardening of the lens in elderly people or may occur as a result of eye injuries (due to heat or other irradiation). Cataracts are generally painless although the deterioration in vision which they produce causes problems. Patients suffering from cataracts can now be operated on without needing to be admitted to hospital.
