Blood pressure

Blood pressure or arterial blood pressure is the force applied by the blood to the walls of the arteries. The doctor quotes two figures. The first, the highest (around 120 mm) is the systolic pressure and the second is the diastolic pressure (around 80 mm). It is measured in millimetres of mercury.

The term hypertension is used if the pressure is too high.
