Avastin

Avastin, or Bevacizumab, is a human monoclonal antibody used to treat various cancers (colon, breast, liver, brain, lung) and is also believed to be effective against ovarian tumours.

Its role is to inhibit angiogenesis, that is, it blocks the formation and development of blood vessels required for tumours to grow. The antibody acts directly on VEGF, vascular endothelial growth factor.
