Asphyxia

Asphyxia, or suffocation, is the inability to breathe. Asphyxia causes hypoxia and can cause loss of consciousness or even death in a person. Asphyxia has several possible causes, including obstruction of the respiratory tract and excessive amounts of fluid present in the lungs.
