Androgen

An androgen is a substance which promotes the development of secondary male sexual characteristics (hair growth, etc.), synonym for male hormone, the most important being testosterone which is produced by the testes. If testosterone concentrations fall in the body, the prostate regresses, narrows, a normal effect of ageing. Similarly, growth of some "hormone sensitive" prostate tumours is stimulated by testosterone present in the body.
