Magnet

Electricity A magnet is a material that naturally generates a magnetic field able to attract iron, nickel, cobalt and chromium.

A magnet has a north pole and a south pole. Like poles repel and unlike poles attract. Magnets are therefore magnetic dipoles of which the poles are inseparable; the existence of a magnetic monopole is ruled out barring proof to the contrary.

Natural magnets exist (based on the iron ore magnetite), as do artificial magnets such as baryium tempered steel.
