Menopause

Menopause can be defined as the cessation of the ovarian function and menstrual cycles. It is preceded (peri-menopause) by irregular cycles with changes in periods which reflect the reduction in ovarian secretion (reduced oestrogen production) and are often accompanied by a whole range of problems: vasomotor (vasomotor flushing or warmth), vaginal dryness.

Menopause is said to be artificial when it occurs as a result of castration.
