XML

XML (X mark-up language) is an evolution of the SGML language and allows HTML document designers to define their own tags in order to personalise the data they wish to present.

XML is a recommendation of the W3C (Worldwide Web Consortium). The initial objective of XML was to make it easier to share texts and structured information, for example via the internet, by separating the content (the data) from the container (the presentation of the data).
