WiMAX
WiMAX is an initiative and a consortium, the WiMAX Forum, dating back to 2003 to allow convergence and interoperability between two wireless network standards that were previously independent: HiperMAN in Europe from ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), and 802.16 from the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
WiMAX is a solution for broadband wireless connections over coverage areas of several kilometres, for fixed and mobile use.
What it is above all is a set of standards being developed, with its supporters already creating products and deploying networks, and its sceptics who believe that the failure of wireless local radio loops will be repeated with WiMAX.
