Widgets are assemblies of HTML, CSS and Javascript (and occasionally a compiled language) and are applications used from time to time as little tools for obtaining information (such as a calculator, electronic post-its, RSS players etc.). In Apple systems they are stored on the Dashboard, one of the functionalities first provided by Tiger, the 2005 edition of MacOS X. They can also be found on the Windows Vista interface.
