WAP is a protocol making it possible for a mobile telephone or any other miniature wireless portable terminal to have unlimited access to the internet. This protocol takes into account the small size of the screen on a mobile terminal. The data consulted are displayed in simplified form.
The term Wireless Application Protocol indicates that it is an adaptation of the TCP-IP protocol for wireless technology applications. A group of companies called WAP Forum is at the origin of the specifications for the WAP protocol, often referred to as the WAP standard.
WAP services have never had any real success and have now lost their appeal because of their limited rate of less than 10 kbit/s.
