NAT

Network Address Translator: an IP address correspondence mechanism used to make the internet accessible to an intranet (one having private reserved addresses).

On the router, the source addresses of the packets are replaced by the public address (dynamic NAT, network address translation) or public addresses (static NAT) of the router so that the recipient can respond to requests.
