i-mode

i-mode is the system developed by the Japanese company NTT-Docomo for access to interactive services from a mobile telephone. Because of its descriptive language close to HTML and the many ways of sending messages, it has had a very quick success in Japan with the general public (around 52 million users by 2011).

i-mode was rolled out in Japan from the beginning of 2002. It was presented as a rival to WAP. European operators adopted it, but it is now being phased out in Europe.
