Botnet

A botnet is a network of zombie computers hijacked without the knowledge of their owners.

Apart from being used to paralyse traffic (denial of service attack) and as a spam delivery engine, botnets can also be used to commit crimes such as the large-scale theft of banking details and identities. Botnets are sometimes hired out to unscrupulous third parties.
