arXiv (pronounced "archive", as if the "X" were the Greek letter Chi χ) is an electronic archive of scientific preprints in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer sciences, non-linear sciences and quantitative biology, and is free to consult on the internet.

The arXiv archive was originally developed by Paul Ginsparg in 1991 as an archive for physics preprints.
