Eligibility

A telephone line is said to be "eligible" for ADSL broadband if its technical characteristics in terms of signal attenuation enable it to be used for xDSL type technology. The length and diameter of the copper wire pairs in the local loop are the main eligibility parameters.

In the current state of the art, the subscriber's connection must not be more than 4.5 km from the DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) for a data rate of 1.5 Mbit/s to be possible.
