Digital Versatile Disc: The DVD optical medium has been marketed since 1997. It has the same appearance as an audio CD, but has increased capacity.

By using a shorter wavelength laser, the burned track width can be narrower, with the size of the pits reduced to 0.4 µm and their spacing to 0.74 µm.
