Supergene

Supergene is a term denoting the physical and chemical phenomena (erosion, dissolution, recrystallisation) that occur in the zone near the surface through the action of air, water, frost etc. Many secondary minerals, so-called supergenes, form in this zone by dissolution of primary minerals (q.v.).
