The Silurian period is the third geological period of the paleozoic era. It extended from 443 million years ago to 417 million years ago. Appearance of terrestrial plants (cooksonia hemisphaerica, 5 cm), and ancestors of the lycopods (baragwanathia longifolia, 25 cm). The first golden age of fish.
