Residual deposit

A residual deposit is a deposit formed by the alteration of a pre-existing rock of which a large part of its constituents have been lost by dissolution and which has therefore become enriched in certain minerals or other elements. e.g.: bauxite, an aluminium ore, formed by alteration of various types of rock of which the minerals contain aluminium.
