Primary

A primary mineral is one that has not undergone the effects of any alteration after being deposited; in particular, near the surface of the ground, above a water table, oxidation phenomena give rise to secondary minerals (e.g. pyrite, a primary mineral, which is transformed into goethite, a secondary mineral).
