Mineral variety

Mineral varieties among the same mineral species are generally due to slight variations in chemical composition manifesting themselves in the outward appearance of the mineral, especially its colour: amethyst is a violet variety of quartz (with Fe3+), emerald is a transparent green variety of beryl (with chromium), marmatite, which is black, is a variety of sphalerite containing iron.
