Iron-bearing formation

An iron-bearing formation is composed of ribbons of silicaceous rocks containing variable amounts of iron-bearing minerals (mostly oxides but also carbonates and silicates). Iron-bearing formations occur in Precambrian bedrock, and contain the largest iron deposits both in size and in iron content (especially in Brazil and Australia).
