Ice core

An ice core is a cylindrical ice sample taken from the ice cap by deep boring. Thus, the "Vostok carrot" taken in the Antarctic is over 3600 m long, and makes it possible to determine temperature variations and carbon dioxide levels for the last 420,000 years.
