Growth twin

A growth twin results from the association of two (single twinning) or more (multiple twinning) crystals during their simultaneous growth according to well defined geometrical laws.

There are:

• contact twins sharing a defined face (Carlsbad orthoclase twin);
• penetration twins (cross-shaped staurolite twin).
