Cubic system

The cubic system is a crystal system with a cube as unit cell of the lattice. The three crystallographic axes (a, b, c) have equal lengths and the angles formed are all 90 degrees. The characteristic symmetry elements are threefold axes, always 4 in number (4A₃). There are 5 crystal classes in this system.

The cubic system is one of the seven lattice systems, along with:

• the triclinic system;
• the monoclinic system;
• the orthorhombic system;
• the tetragonal system;
• the rhombohedral system;
• the hexagonal system.
