Cambrian

The Cambrian is the oldest period in the Paleozoic era, currently defined by the appearance of the fossil remains of a burrowing creature called Trichophycus pedum in a series of rocks dating back 543 million years (Newfoundland, Canada). The Cambrian period ended around 490 million years ago. Total duration: 53 million years.
