BRGM

The BRGM (for Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières or Office of Geological and Mining Research) is a public industrial and commercial establishment under the authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea. Its slogan is« Geosciences for a sustainable Earth. »

The goals of the BRGM

The goal of the BRGM is to improve our understanding of geological phenomena and provide tools for managing the soil, the sub-soil and its resources, and to forestall natural risks and pollution. It also has to work within the framework of policies to address climate change.

Its main areas of study and action are in geology of course, but more particularly research on, and exploitation of, mineral resources, water and geothermal sites, geological storage of CO2, prevention and intervention in matters of natural geological risks, the pollution of the soil and sub-soil, the conversion of mines and the production and publication of geomatic data
