Topographer

A topographer is a person who practises topography professionally.

The topographer uses various geometrical and optical resources and methods to make altitude and planimetric measurements of any terrain.

The principle is to record the relief of the location using 3D points, usually calculated to fit a plane orthonormal X Y reference grid for planimetric (ground) data, and to include an altimetric (height) component Z. The job of the topographer is then to plot these points and the relief of the terrain on a computerised and paper map.
