Hox gene

Hox genes are part of the homeotic genes and are found in all bilaterally symmetrical animals. The genes are responsible for the position of structures (cells, tissues, organs and limbs) along the anteroposterior (front to back) axis of animals.

As they are homeotic genes, mutations in them cause homeosis. A third of these mutations are fatal in mice.
