Wardriving

Wardriving consists in detecting urban wireless networks belonging to private individuals or businesses and attempting to penetrate them.

"Wardrivers" carrying laptops cruise around business districts and residential areas looking for broadband wireless access points, mainly WiFi (802.11 type standard).

There are several reasons: surfing the web free of charge, hacking business servers, gaining access to confidential data etc.
