Plug-in

A plug-in or plugin is a small non-independent piece of software that plugs in to the main program to give it new functions. Plugins comply with the main programme’s standard for data exchange. For example, some plug-ins are installed on a browser to give it extra features. Plug-ins are used, amongst other things, to watch video on web pages, or translate domain names in Roman letters into ideograms.
