Brönsted base

A Brönsted base is a molecular entity or the corresponding chemical species that can gain a proton to give another entity or chemical species: the conjugate acid. Bases of this type are said to be "strong" or "weak" according to whether the conjugate acids are completely or partially dissociated in a water based solution.
