Transgenic plant

A transgenic plant is a plant that has acquired one or several characteristics via genetic engineering, instead of through the transfer of genes between two parent plants during cross breeding. The cells of a transgenic plant, which is a GMO, therefore contain a new DNA sequence (transgene) that is foreign to its hereditary genetic material and gives new characteristics to the plant.
