Shallot
The shallot is a condiment that gives a sweet yet distinct flavour to dishes.
Shallot season
Shallots are harvested between May and June but can easily be found year-round due to their storage method.
Nutritional value of the shallot
Generally eaten in small quantities, shallots have many nutritional benefits. Rich in vitamin C, shallots contain many minerals and trace elements.
Shallot varieties
Cousins of the onion, shallots are found in the form of pink shallots (from Jersey) which have long, half-long or round shapes, and in the form of grey shallots which are less common.
Shallot storage
Dry shallots keep for several months away from light in a dry and, if possible, well-ventilated location. Fresh shallots and peeled shallots keep for 2 days if left in their packaging in a cool location.
