Nitrophile

A nitrophile plant is a plant that prefers to grow in soil or water that is rich in nitrates. These nitrates generally come from the decomposition of organic substances linked to human activities (fertilizer, rubbish dumps, etc.).

Most nitrophileplants are also ruderal plants, such as the nettle (Urtica sp.) or wild spinach (Chenopodium bonus-henricus).
