Mycorrhizas

Mycorrhizas are symbiotic associations between plant roots and certain types of soil fungus. They encourage the root's absorption of mineral elements from the rhizosphere and the soil and thus improve the nutrition of most plant species.

The structures generated by the mycorrhizal association may be classified based on ecological, morphological and physiological criteria. There are several types of mycorrhizas: arbuscular endomycorrhiza, ectomycorrhiza, and ericoid mycorrhiza, as well as arbutoid, monotropoid and orchid mycorrhizas.
