Gymnosperm

The word gymnosperm comes from the Greek word gumnospermos which means "naked seed". Gymnosperms are plants that belong to a subphylum of spermatophytes (seed plants). Their singularity resides in the fact that the egg is bare (not enclosed in an ovary, as opposed to angiosperms) and carried by a fertile leaf.
