Cucumber
Cucumbers are part of summer diets.
Cucumber season
The cucumber is a true summer vegetable, with a water content of nearly 96%. It is especially found between May and August.
Nutritional value of the cucumber
The cucumber is one of the least caloric vegetables, with 10 kilocalories per 100 grammes. It provides minerals and quenches thirst (96% water), and contains all vitamins, especially vitamin B9.
Cucumber varieties
Ever popular in our gardens, cucumber varieties include the long green garden cucumber (as its name indicates, it has an elongated shape and green colour), as well as more original varieties, such as the Kenya Yellow (yellow colour and round shape).
Cucumber storage
Whole, cucumbers easily keep for 5 days in the crisper. Once cut, cucumbers are more fragile: it is best to wrap it in film and make sure to eat them quickly before they become soft.
