Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll comes from the Greek words khloros = green and phullon = leaf. It is a green pigment found in plants that is used for photosynthesis, composed of a porphyrine ring with a magnesium atom linked to the compound. This molecule is fundamental in the photo-oxidation process, which transforms sunlight into chemical energy for the cell to use. There are several types of chlorophyll, called a, b, c and d, which have different activation wavelengths.
