Vitrification

Vitrification is a process by which a material is transformed into an amorphous solid, with no crystalline structure. Ultra-fast cooling prevents atoms becoming arranged in an organised manner.

The process can particularly be used to freeze and preserve oocytes and embryos without risking damage to the cells.
