Translation
Translation is a process allowing a polypeptide chain (protein) to be synthesised from a strand of messenger RNA (mRNA).
Role of translation
Translation is responsible for expression of genes carried by DNA and is the second major stage in this process after transcription (which involves convertingDNA to mRNA).
The player in translation
Translation requires a large number of players, the main ones being :
Mechanism of translation
Translation takes place in the ribosomes. The mRNA codons are composed up of a triplet of nucleotide bases, and are recognised by the tRNA anti-codon. The corresponding amino acid carried by the tRNA is then incorporated into the polypeptide chain being synthesised.
