Seminal receptacle

The seminal receptacle is the storage organ for male gametes inside the female. This " sperm bank ” allows women to control fertilisation of their oocytes by spermatozoa. Queens are therefore fertilised as long as they have spermatozoa in their seminal receptacle. The queens of some species can lay fertilised eggs for tens of years.
