Nucleoside monophosphate

A nucleoside monophosphate is a molecule formed by a purine or pyrimidine binding to a carbohydrate (forming a nucleoside) which is bound to a phosphate group. The main nucleoside monophosphates are AMP and GMP (purine nucleotides ) and CMP, UMP and TMP (pyrimidine nucleotides). These are the monomers of which nucleic acids are composed.
