Lipoglycan

A lipoglycan is a glycoconjugate made up of several fatty acids (Lipid A) bound to a (core) monosaccharide base onto which several polysaccharides (O antigen) are bound.

The lipoglycans are a essential component of the cell membrane and the wall of some bacteria. In bacteria, these molecules are endotoxins which trigger a powerful immune response in the infected animals.
