Ingestion

Ingestion is the intake of a solid or liquid through the mouth or the organ acting as a mouth into the body.

It is therefore a heterotrophic method of nutrition in which other organisms or waste are ingested either whole or in pieces.

Ingestion is also therefore a way through which the body is contaminated by pathogens, toxins or pollutants.
