Essential amino acid

An essential amino acid is an amino acid which cannot be produced by the body and which must be obtained from the diet. Isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine are always essential amino acids in human beings. Histidine is only an essential amino acid during childhood and in pregnancy.
