Collagen

Collagen is a fibrillar protein that is composed of three protein chains bound to each other to form a triple helix. It is produced by osteoblasts and forms lamellae, which interconnect (pyridine cross links) making the bone resistant to stretching.

It is the structural component of bone, cartilage, and connective tissue (for example the rigid white fibres in tendons) and ligaments.
