Chemosynthesis

Chemosynthesis is a metabolic synthetic pathway for organic substances from reduction of inorganic carbon (CO2) using energy obtained not from light as in photosynthesis but from, occasionally organic, minerals.

This metabolic pathway is used by bacteria in external environments: hot water springs sinkholes etc.
