Auxin

Auxin is indole-acetic acid (IAA). Auxin is the hormone which increases the size of young cells when the wall is still flexible.

In a plant, auxin moves preferentially from the apex to the base: light causes migration of auxin towards the dark part of the plant leading to extension of the root.
